You can answer questions or offer help on sites that specialize in giving information on how to do things. You can post videos or podcast. Whether as a profile link or a signature link, you can link to your site and people who are curious will click through.

You can go to sites like Twitter where people are chatting and sign up to join the conversation. On these sites and forums you can place a link to your site in a profile or signature box. Each comment you add to a conversation online, displays a link to your site.

Social Marketing Needs A Subtle Touch

This is called social marketing. It is not advertising in any traditional sense. In fact if all you have to say is  “Go here and buy what we are selling”, then you will be as severely snubbed as you would in a social conversation where you were rude enough to interrupt a conversation with such a blatent plug.

However, if you give good intelligent helpful related content, both the content and the links you post in profile or signature will stay on the web long after that expensive pay per click campaign is over.

If people like what you said and found it useful, it gives you credibility. Curiosity to know more about you will make them click on your signature link.

These links will continue sending you traffic for years and they also have the power to increase your visibility with the search engines for your sites theme or topic keywords.
