Designing An Email Newsletter
Designing An Email Newsletter
5 Cautionary Do-Be's to consider
-
Be On Topic
Make sure that the content of your newsletter pertains to and is closely associated with your business or the theme of your site. Do not stray too far from what will be regarded as your field of expertise. You have a theme for your site that should be something you are knowledgeable about, and this is what people have subscribed to hear about.
For example; if you have a site that sells auto car parts, most of your newsletter must contain articles (or content such as photos) that pertain to cars, auto parts and such. You may also include content about your company, yourself and your staff.
Remember that visitors are there because they are interested in what the site has to offer. If they sign up for an opt-in list or for a newsletter this means that they want to be updated for that certain theme or subject. Be sure that when you publish your newsletter you are providing to the need and interests of the subscriber.
-
Be Professional
Ensure that you have well written, informative helpful articles to refer to. Your article/s will be the body of your newsletter and they should be able to excite your readers and provoke them to react, as well as simply provide information. Articles should be well written and checked for spelling and grammatical errors so as to look professional and believable. The trust of your client to you and newsletter is at stake here.
-
Be Factual
Fact-check your articles. Make sure that you provide true facts and figures so that your reputation as an expert who is knowledgeable in that field is not questioned. If you lose the trust of your subscribers this may persuade them to unsubscribe to your newsletter. You could lose many potential sales this way.
-
Be Current
Provide fresh and new articles and keep up with industry news. If you publish stale and old news in your newsletter, your subscribers will probably have already read and know about it. If they lose their interest in your newsletter, they may not bother opening any of your succeeding newsletters. There is little point in spending time writing and publishing newsletters, if not to get people to visit your site and take an action.
-
Be Honest
Never use copyrighted materials such as photos and articles you find on the web. This is outright plagiarism, and you may get into a lot of trouble for this. You can lose your business and get sued over copyright infringement.
If you do not have the time to write your own articles, there are many willing and able professional article writers that can do it for you for a reasonable fee. All your investment in writing and publishing articles will be well worth it when you see your list build up and your traffic increasing.
