Comment Rewards

Web2.0 is all about interaction . People don't go to Facebook to just browse like they do at wikipedia. They go there to actually interact with their friends, see pictures and videos they have uploaded, play games and boast when they do well, and chat to anyone who is online.

Well, I know this is just a blog but did you know that blogs were the forerunners of these social media sites because of their ability to enable their readers to comment on articles and interact with the author and other readers of the blog?

If you didn't know, you are not alone. There are still thousands of people reading blogs who never come out of their shell and use the comment box.

The comment luv plugin is good in fact I use it on this blog and it gives you a link back to your site. A backlink is a great reward I think but sometimes people want more tangible rewards!

New WordPress Plugin Rewards Comments ...

Some people need a gift as an incentive! So this comment rewards plugin is great!

Have you seen this new WordPress plugin RewardMe yet? It rewards the people who comment on your blog with a digital gift.

I just installed it on the Genie's Tips - New Products Blog - which means that if you leave a comment there and now, the blog will automagically send you an email with a link to download a reward. My rewards are training videos on different ways you can get more traffic such as videos on social media, seo, articles etc.

As I use Intense Debate to manage comments on this blog, the plugin doesn't work on this blog. So if you have comment plugins already, you may need to choose between them, they may not "play nice" together! ( BTW - I have only just installed Intense Debate and I have no comments (sigh) so my widget may not display much for a while!)

Comment Rewards For You...

Anyway I hope that this may encourage you to leave a comment on either blog (or both). You get Comment Luv here with a backlink and Comment rewards of a digital gift are available from Genie with 5 comment rewards available after 1, 3, 6, 12 and 20 comments.

So the more you comment, the more rewards you get.

P.S. If you have a blog and want to use this plugin too, the WP Incentive Plugin price is expected go increase by at LEAST double on March 17th 2010, so now is the time to take advantage of the dirt cheap pricing: (less than $10!)

Check out new Comment Rewards WordPress Plugin RewardMe

I'm think it's a great idea, and I hope you do too. It is hard to get people started commenting and I do feel lonely sometimes just blogging along by myself. I know people are reading my articles because my stats say so. But its a lot more fun to actually get some comments and real feedback!

So why not leave me a comment below and tell me what you think...

And don't forget to check out Genie's Tips - New Products Blog , leave a comment and check your email for your first reward video.

Using Only2clicks Resource

You know you need links. Many seo systems are difficult to learn at first. You may be shy about asking for reciprocal links. You may be confused about what you need to do on directory sites or not be able to link back to them. You may not have a budget for promotion. You may not have the time to write a bunch of articles. Time is always a problem, sorry!

When you are looking for links from high ranking sites -  free websites, free blogs, bookmark sites and social media sites will get you started with your web networking. Just keep focused on keeping it simple to start. Get the links you need and make it look decent but don't get distracted yet by socializing or you'll never get anything done again!

The Imarketable Only2clicks Resource

I have created this resource at only2clicks. Click on the link and take a look.

Only2clicks is a great bookmarking site which displays a screenshot of links. I created these links to free websites, free blogs, bookmark sites and social media sites to get you started web networking. Click on the picture or screenshot and it takes you to the site.  Hence the only2clicks name.

I am still creating this resource and adding more categories and links but you can get started from what is already there.

First go to the Preparing to Socialize category and click on gmail. Sign up for a free gmail account.

When you start socializing you get lots of emails from these free websites and bookmark sites and social media sites and until you figure out what you need to keep from what you receive from them and then how to limit them, you don't want your main email address cluttered up with emails. You can easily archive your gmail emails so they will still be there for you later if you need to refer back to one.

To make it easy to read your emails though, you may prefer to download the emails into your email client rather than to  keep logging in online at gmail. So I also linked to their instruction pages to downloading emails using imap. This will mean your emails come into a separate folder, it's easy - just follow the instructions.

Once you have a gmail you can start signing up for some free websites, free blogs, bookmark sites and social media sites . Don't go overboard or you'll get overwhelmed. Start with one site, figure it out, get some content up, link it to something good, only then - move on to another site.

Almost all these free web sites will ask you to confirm your registration by clicking a link in an email. So after you sign up, check your gmail and click those links. Otherwise next time you go back to add content you may be unable to login.

It's also a good idea to create an excel document to keep a record of your registrations so you can always find your username and password. You can put a copy on a usb stick to use with a laptop or at a friends house if you want to show them something. Purchasing Roboform is a good plan, saves lots of time and effort, but it's not essential if you don't want to spend money.

I also use Firefox as a browser because of the wealth of useful addons it has available. You can see my favourites on the prepare to socialize page too. These are especially good for bookmarking.

You don't have to constantly use Firefox, if you prefer Internet Explorer or another browser, but I still believe its worth downloading Firefox to use their addons, even if you don't set it as your default browser.

Remember to click on the Prepare to Socialize Tab at the top to see the links to Gmail and Firefox.   Imarketable Only2clicks Resource

At the top of the only2clicks page are other different categories.

When you have videos to share or pictures, want resources for local promoti ons, then look in these different categories for more resources.

That's basically it for now until I get more sites up. Hope this helps you to more easily find the free sites you want to use for web networking.

Here is the link again and don't forget to click on the Prepare to Socialize Tab to see the links to Gmail and Firefox.

What is Web 2.0

What was Web 1.0 ?

The web's childhood when Google was a baby and Yahoo was the favoured search engine, the most interesting information was on education sites (and hard to access) and everyone was on dial up. The web was about documents and you didn't interact with it, so much as just read it.

What is Web 2.0 ?

Web 2.0 is essentially about bringing interactivity (such as that on a personal computer desktop) to the web. Web 2.0 describes the technological capability of internet browsers to allow people to enter data and view more complex information online.

Example are the ability to enter data into forms or text into blogs, social sites or support desks, by the internal site use of ftp technology in order to to upload media such as text, pictures and video.

It also refers to the streaming of video and audio and the playing of interactive games and the ability to comment on articles. It is related to the technology that enables anyone owning a computer with an internet connection to "almost" automatically use their browser to view or listen to this type of multi media. I say "almost" because there are still "prompts" that must sometimes be followed to download the applications that make this possible.

What Now!

What is Web 3.0 or Semantic Search?

Early search algorithms analysed pages, indexed occurrences of specific words and phrases and attempted to rate the importance of pages for specific search terms using this data and the number of links that referenced the page. The web is now so filled with data that this system is overloaded. Semantic search algorithms are now also checking the context of keywords to return more relevant results.

Search engines are constantly "tweaking" the algorithm to keep their searchers happy with quality results. It is getting harder and harder for websites to keep up with the information they need to optimize their site in order to appear in search engine result pages.

In simpler terms, search engines are now rating groupings of words to analyse the data they will index. This can have unexpected results - some good, some not.

Image of Search results for "boxer dog training" February 2010

Semantic search is specific. If you enter "boxer dog training" in Google - you will be offered sites that have "targeted" boxer dogs not necessarily all dogs "dog training" sites. The sites that appear are also not always single pages on boxer dogs but can be multiple page sites with related "dog training" words.

Semantically speaking, search is unlikely to display a search result titled "How do I train my dog not to eat my Boxer shorts?" now on this search result page as the other data on the page and site will show that it that it is not actually about Boxer dogs. Good news for searchers, not so good for site builders.

The web is global, so relevant local results are becoming more important to search engines. By using local directories and map applications then sites can "target" terms to appear for a topic - say "plumber" + their location area. Results for searches (if sufficient are available) will show less web sites in the US if you are in Australia. Use this to your advantage by including references to your local area and country.

Unless you start to optimize your site with some specific keywords and phrases and can show your site is relevant to this topic,  the sheer number of competing sites will bury you.

Links from other web sites are also still extremely important.

Other things are also happening. In earlier years a page could stay relevant for a long period of time. The first page of Google is now starting to show blog articles published that day as results. Great! But it may be only 15 minutes of fame on the first page.

Unless the article is referenced by other sites and linked to, it will soon be replaced with the next days new publications.

Keeping up is hard. But not keeping up is quitting!
